Start planning now, take the summer to prep the location, and make your fall experience a good one by planting this confidence booster, Field Edge.

6 PS

Before planting you MUST follow the Rack Stacker 6 Ps to plotting. Proper, Preparation, and Patience, Prevents, Poor, Plotting.

If you follow these instructions (also on the back of the bag) and don’t cut any corners, it will grow for you and produce great results throughout the summer, into fall and for late season hunting so you can harvest that buck of a lifetime and get them fawns into the winter in good health.

PLANTING TIME

Best time to plant Field Edge is in the late parts of the summer as long as there is good moisture in the soils. You can plant into the fall if you have sufficient rain in the area. If you want large plant growth in a very short amount of time Plant we plant in late July here in South Eastern Ontario. The Rack Stacker Guy prefers to plant his in Early August for lush green growth for the early hunt, but your best to try and get it in early July if you live in the northern regions of Sask, Alberta or other provinces like Quebec or Northern NB. Southern areas like Quebec, South Ontario or NS you can plant this up until Sept long weekend.

PREPARATION

You really want to make as best seed to soil contact as possible when planting Field Edge. Spraying the plot with a herbicide is the best, you don’t want weeds competing for moisture, nutrients on the fields with LAST LIGHT. After spraying, using a set of disks, plows or cultivators are best. As long as you have something that can scar the ground enough to allow the seed to have good seed to soil contact then you will be successful with Rack Stacker LAST LIGHT. Before seeding down your plot you want to drag the soils as level as possible as well. The smoother the soils the better to prevent channeling during the rain and keeps the birds from eating your seed. You don’t need to have the seed plowed under. You only want to make the seed hit the ground, and then pack it to the ground with a roller or a calti-packer.

TIME NEEDED

If I spray 2 weeks prior to working the land, I can have it in the ground,(disking, dragging, seeding and packing) in 4 hours. Not a lot of time for a ½ acre plot when you thing about the 40,000lbs of forage it can produce in 90 days. that’s a lot of food available for your herd throughout the year.

SEEDING RATE/ COVERAGE

We sell LAST LIGHT in 4.5lb bags but can supply in larger by request at 1-800-945-1846. If you spread the seed by hand using a broadcast spreader 2.5lbs will plant 1/4 acre . 10lbs per acre is recommended.

CALCULATING SQUARE FOOTAGE

Measure the location of your plot. Length X Width divided by 43,560 that will give you the size of your plot (Ex. 150ft X 100ft=15,000sq ft 1/3 of an acre) you will be able to plant 15,000 sq ft if you plant Field Edge. Be sure to plant the right amount of seed for the area that you are working with. Field Edge Gets Huge fast so you need to make sure you give it enough room to grow over a 60-70 day period.

FERTILIZER

Its recommended that you fertilize a few weeks after planting the plot. It good to put 300lbs to the acre and what we like to do is split that up to two different applications. 150lb of 18-18-18 (or equivalent %) 2-3 weeks after seeding and 150lbs approx 6-8 weeks after seeding. This will prevent burn and improve nutrient absorption. Driving on the plants to fertilize is ok. They will bounce back pretty quick.

MAINTENANCE

Nothing needs to be done after laying the seed on your plot. This is an annual planting and doesn’t need any maintenance accept for fertilize that is listed on the bag when you purchase it. You can plant LAST LIGHT 3 years in a row but you will want to have a rotation in the crop after 2-3 years to give the soils a break, Superb-uck is a great alternative.

Field edge is a great blend but I like to add a bit of bug-uns radish to all my plots. This does just that! I've used this blend for a couple of years to establish great brassica plots with many options of brassicas for the deer to choose from. Great for late season hunting.
